About the Caller ID Fraud Blog
My husband and I created this blog because of the hellish experience we have gone through known as Caller ID Fraud. It all started this past Friday when I started receiving strange calls in rapid succession asking me who I was, why I called their number, where was I located, etc… I did not call any of these people, however they insisted it was MY number that showed up on THEIR caller id and the person on the other end of the phone said they could offer these people lower interest rates on their credit cards.
After recieving 50 plus phone calls in less than 2 hours all claiming the same thing, I called our local phone company and told them I believed our number was involved in some sort of phishing scam, I was then transferred to the “security department” to which they confirmed that our number had indeed been spoofed. The only solution? Wait it out untill these jerks find another number to use or change our number…. We didn’t want to do that because after all, it is OUR number and it’s not our fault that some scuz-bag is using the number for their own adgenda.
So, what’s a family to do? In our case, we unplugged our phones and changed the message on our answering machine explaining that we are a victim of caller id fraud.
In the mean time we have been researching Caller ID Fraud also known as Spoofing. We never realized that this is a common practice for sleazy companies to scam your credit card accounts, personal financial information, etc.
So please, take a few moments and read some of the information that we found to better educate yourselves about this evil practice know as Caller ID Fraud.
