When you have the most basic PSTN land-line phone service, Caller-ID is usually disabled and you have to pay extra for the feature to have it enabled. So, in this case, even if your telephone you purchased is "capable" of displaying Caller-ID, it will not work unless your phone company has enabled Caller-ID data to be transmitted to your phone. It just depends on the package you purchased from your telephone service provider. Almost all VoIP phone services come with caller ID already enabled. Caller ID is a function that your telecom provider can turn-on or turn-off on your service line.
