Caller ID is that little telephone display that tells you whose calling. It’s many people’s protection from individuals that they’d rather not talk to, whether it’s a telemarketer making a pitch at dinner time or a scammer trying to con them out of personal financial information.
Well, as crooks get more intelligent (oxymoron, eh) on using the various technical tools to perform CallerId fraud, the more the average consumer should be aware on how to combat them! It’s a fact that anyone can easily do a caller id spoof search on Google and then simply rent a service that will not only allow you to mask or “spoof” the caller id readout, but can actually disguise or change your voice to that of the opposite sex!
So, why has our Government been dragging their feet on making such completely illegal? Couldn’t Homeland Security spearhead such regulation to help in the fight to ward off caller id fraud?! Only time will tell, but in the meantime it is clear that Caller ID scammers plan to do a number on you!
