You probably heard about this site by calling our home phone and getting my answering machines message.
Well, it’s true. The underbelly of telemarketing has somehow used our previously UNlisted residential telephone number to mask or spoof the caller ids on the poor victims they were calling!
I’ve had multiple occurances since yesterday and it continued until about 11pm EST. My wife reported there being about 60 calls per hour during the day!! All of these calls were coming in from the west coast, so far.
We have called VERIZON, who happens to be our telphone carrier, and all they could say was CHANGE your phone number. Well, we have already been thru that ordeal due to a previous phone number they handed us that had major bill collectors looking for the previous person that had it! So, changing the phone number is NOT an option. What we’re going to do is see how many people can reply to this post and then we plan on soliciting our local newspaper and media on how this is affecting our lives and how the big companies won’t lift a finger to act on what many states consider fraud.
I plan on using this site to parse rss news feeds on various Caller ID spoofing stories and well as other sources on info.
So far I have discovered that the several public companies that offer the spoofing service, yes it’s considered a service by some, either view this as entertainment or to aid law enforcement or bill collectors. Well, I really don’t care what they call it… NObody should have their phone numbers given out on the back of a spoofed Caller ID.
If you’re someone who recieved our number and got to this website by call ing our answering machine, please post a reply here! I will be setting up a feed burner link to let you all subscribe to any changes I add on here.
